What Is Microneedling and What Does It Treat?
As the name suggests, microneedling is a treatment that uses fine needles to stimulate collagen production. We use a handheld device to make small wounds on the surface of your skin. Microneedling uses the body’s natural healing powers to reduce the effects of certain skin conditions, such as acne and wrinkles. You can use microneedling for acne scars, and wrinkles and fine lines. Microneedling can also be used to:
Tightens and reduces the size of pores.
Reduces the appearance of scars.
The Microneedling Process
The purpose of microneedling is to stimulate the production of collagen to heal your skin imperfections. However, you must follow all the guidelines we provide throughout the procedure to achieve the desired results. We will be there from the beginning to ensure your treatment goes well and delivers remarkable results.
The Initial Consultation
One of the most important steps is your first consultation with us, where we will discuss your desired results and procedure. During this consultation, you should tell us about any pre-existing skin conditions or medications you may be taking. It is also important to tell us about any future skin care treatments you’re going to have, so we can ensure that they don’t conflict with your microneedling treatment. Waxing or laser hair removal before your microneedling treatment can cause irritation to the skin. This is also a good time to ask questions so you can familiarize yourself with the process.
How to Prepare for Your Treatment
This treatment is minimally invasive, but it still causes minor trauma to your skin. You should treat your skin gently in the week leading up to your microneedling treatment. Avoid scrubs and harsh chemicals that may cause unnecessary irritation to your skin. Avoid trying new skincare or makeup products. Drinking enough water is crucial to keeping your skin healthy. Avoid other harsh skin treatments, such as chemical peels, for 3 days before and after your microneedling session.
What is the Microneedling Treatment Like?
Your face must be bare and clean, so you should remove makeup and other skin care products before the treatment. We can apply local anesthesia or topical numbing cream to the treatment area to prevent discomfort. However, most patients don’t need this because the procedure is considered to be highly tolerable. Depending on the area being treated, your session could take about 30 minutes. If you’re using a numbing cream or local anesthesia, you’ll need to wait another 45 minutes for the numbness to kick in. We also will apply a soothing serum after the treatment to ensure your comfort during and after the microneedling session.
After receiving a numbing cream, you can expect the feeling on your face to return two hours later. There is no downtime with microneedling; you can jump back into your daily activities immediately after your session. Your skin will appear slightly red and more sensitive, but this is normal and will subside. Avoid using abrasive skin care products, such as exfoliating scrubs or makeup removers, for 3 days after the microneedling session. You should also avoid long-term exposure to the sun. As soon as the redness disappears and your skin looks healed, you can go back to your normal skincare routine. Keep drinking sufficient water and apply a moisturizing lotion to the treated area to keep it healthy and nourished. After microneedling therapy, your skin absorbs products more effectively. Depending on what your skin needs, we will tell you when to schedule your next appointment.
You may notice an immediate improvement in your skin once the redness subsides. However, many patients only notice drastic results after about 3-4 sessions. These sessions are usually spaced 4 weeks apart. We will provide you with a set of instructions to help you maintain your results. You can get the most out of your microneedling treatment if you keep your skin healthy. Radiant skin is just a few short treatments away.
The Benefits of Microneedling
When these fine needles make tiny wounds on your skin, your cells increase the production of collagen. Collagen helps to enhance the elasticity and firmness of your skin. The procedure of microneedling causes your skin to heal certain imperfections, which results in a smoother appearance and a reduction in wrinkles and fine lines. It’s the increased production of collagen that heals scars and decreases the size of pores. When your skin is forced to start healing, it can also improve the texture and color of your skin.
