What Are Dermal Fillers?

There are countless beauty products out there, but many creams and ointments do not work very well or only have temporary effects. If you would like to enhance your looks and get rid of wrinkles for several months at a time, you should look into getting a filler.

Nowadays, several brands produce safe and effective gels that can plump up your face for several months or even years at a time. The appointment at the clinic is quick and easy, and you will not have to spend a lot of time recovering from treatment. What’s more, the substance we use occurs naturally in the body, which reduces your risk and makes allergic reactions extremely unlikely.

The Juvéderm® Family

This is the most well-known dermal filler brand, and it offers various treatments. Some of them are designed to address fine lines and wrinkles, and others are more suited to plumping up the lips or adding more volume to the patient’s cheeks. The active ingredient in the gel is hyaluronic acid, which is a substance naturally found in various areas of the body such as the skin, eyes, and blood vessels.

When injected into the treatment area, hyaluronic acid lubricates the tissue and therefore allows it to take on its youthful shape. You will experience increased plumpness, fewer wrinkles, and more volume. Depending on the type of gel used, the results of this injectable can remain fresh for six to twenty-four months. Here at the clinic, we offer all FDA-approved products from this brand including Juvéderm® Ultra, Ultra Plus, Voluma, Volift, and Volbella.

Brilliant Distinctions: The Allergan Rewards Program

The Allergan rewards program, Brilliant Distinctions, is a loyalty program that allows you to get rewarded simply for scheduling the treatments you love. You can accumulate points with Botox treatments, filler treatments using Juvéderm®, and even with Coolsculpting treatments.

At The MedSpa at Burlington Plastic Surgery, we are proud to be a participating provider in the Brilliant Distinctions Rewards Program. All you have to do is create a free account online. Then you will be able to start earning points that you can then use towards future qualifying treatments.

The Revanesse® Family

This type of filler also uses hyaluronic acid to plump up the skin and reduce the appearance of wrinkles. However, the shape of the molecules is slightly different. The gel’s texture is smooth with uniform, spherical particles, so it’s an excellent choice for anyone who would like to add natural-looking volume to their face.

What’s more, the results from this gel can last very long, especially if you take good care of your face and body in between appointments. Your provider can discuss the various features of different products and determine which one is most suitable for you.

How It Works

Many of our products already contain lidocaine, so they reduce discomfort once they are injected. after discussing your treatment goals and plan, your provider will carefully mark the injection sites. Your session should only take about 20 minutes or less, and once you have been treated, you can leave the clinic right away.

You will receive specific post-care instructions for the first several hours after your treatment. For the first 24 hours after your appointment, you might need to avoid strenuous physical activity. Other than that, you can resume your regular activities.

Keeping Results Fresh

Dermal filler results require ongoing maintenance, but you can maximize your rejuvenated appearance by focusing on the condition of your skin and your lifestyle habits in between sessions. By avoiding nicotine and excessive amounts of alcohol, eating a healthy diet that contains plenty of nutrients, getting enough sleep, and exercising regularly, you can keep your face looking fresh for many months. To further enhance your complexion, your provider can recommend a suitable skincare routine.

Who Is This Right for?

Injectables are prescription medications, so you will have to come to the clinic for an assessment prior to treatment. Almost all patients are good candidates because there are very few contraindications. However, you might need to look for a different treatment if you have a disease that prevents you from healing quickly, a severe heart condition, or an infection at your treatment site.

Choosing a Filler

Your provider can help you select the filler that best fits your needs. The chosen brand depends on your treatment area, the severity of the cosmetic issue, and the desired results.

You might also want to consider the longevity of the filler, especially if you lead a very busy life and do not have the time or financial resources to come to the clinic as often. If you would like to further reduce the cost of your treatment, you should ask about the Allergan rewards program. We can discuss which injectables are eligible and whether they are good options for you.
